The Inspiration

Cindy Sherman’s Untitled Film Stills are the inspiration for this series. I took the background pictures on my maiden trip to Europe during September 2001. (Ask me about flying that month.) As is only natural for a romantic twentysomething, I fell in love with the pastel streets of Nice and pretty much every Greek sculpture in the Louvre.

The Music

Fantastic Plastic Machine is Japanese DJ Tomoyuki Tanaka. His chirpy electronic style counterbalances all the depressing love songs and Tori Amos in my collection. FPM is always kitschy, usually bossa nova, and often disco. If Hello Kitty came of age and made a movie in Paris, this would be the soundtrack.
